Honestly never asked myself that question until recently when someone I was ministering to asked me. The truth is that Jesus isn’t just found in the Christian Bible but in multiple religious texts by name. Here are a few examples:
Bahá’í believe Jesus came from God, was a wise teacher who had a divine and human nature, worked miracles, and was crucified and resurrected as an atonement for humanity.
Hindus believe Jesus was a holy man, a wise teacher, and is a ‘god’.
Buddhists believe Jesus was an enlightened man and a wise teacher.
Judaism says Jesus was Mary’s son, a teacher, and had many disciples.
Islam says Jesus was born of a virgin and was revered.
So this points the historical evidence of Jesus existing as a man. Where Christianity branches from this is the evidence of His crucifixion, the historical documentation of his punishment, and historical texts describing his death as well as his resurrection.
But WHY Jesus?
My faith in Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior is that every other religion bases salvation on works. If that’s the case we are all doomed becuase even the most respected ministers, preachers, prophets, teachers, ect. have all made mistakes. Nobody in the history of living man has been able to live a flawless life… except Jesus. And he was hated for it. Killed for it. For us.
Romans 3:23 states “For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.” (NKJV)
Ephesians 2:8-9 says “ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (NKJV)
Grace comes from Jesus’ sacrifice to willingly be beaten, humiliated, mocked, and eventually killed in a horrific way no image or film can depict accurately. He did what no man could and did so not as God but as a man. He showed us a better way.
That’s why I choose Jesus. Because every other religion and “god” puts the burden on us for our own salvation through works which we will never get right 100% of the time. We have moments of righteousness but cannot claim righteousness fully. Jesus came to earth and did the work for us and in return simply asks that we believe. That we simply choose life. We obey and that we seek Him out when we fall short to better ourselves every day but even if we miss it completely we are still and always forgiven. That’s why.
